Resident Spotlight

Eris Black
Eris Black was born on August 24 in the beautiful little rural town of Elsinore, Utah. Raised on fresh country air and surrounded by farm land, she helped her father herd and milk the cows, take care of the chickens, and weed the garden. She loved the beautiful song birds. From an early age, her parents instilled in her the importance of living the gospel of Jesus Christ, and of being true to her faith at all times. Eris met the love of her life, Leland, at a dance sponsored by the church. From
the time she first saw him, her mind was made up that he was the one for her. Eris and Leland married and settled in Provo, Utah to raise a family. They were blessed with three boys while living in Provo - Stephen, Doug, and Bruce. After having a new home built in Orem in 1954, they were blessed with a daughter, Marilyn. Raising her children to love the gospel and truly love others was a central focus for Eris, and she has always been a wonderful example. She filled our home with love, kindness, and encouragement. Never one to shrink from responsibility, Eris happily served in many callings in the church - including ward and stake relief society president. Eris and Leland served a mission together for the LDS church in Texas. One of her passions over the years has been geneological research. Our family will forever be thankful for her dedication to gathering wonderful histories of our ancestors, complete with compelling photos. In summing up who Eris is, one of her friends described her best: a combination of velvet and steel. She is kind and loving, always seeing the best in others. She is also strong and steady in the face of life's trials and tribulations that come to all of us at times. Eris has been blessed with 13 grandchildren, and 19 great- grandchildren. We love and adore you, dear mother of ours. Happy 91st birthday on August 24th!
