2012 "Walk To End Alzheimer's"
I just want to say WOW! What a wonderful day and way to remember & celebrate those we love, those we have lost and those that we know who are currently battling Alzheimer's Disease. I'm incredibly grateful to all those who helped engaged in this cause. I'm thankful for your donations of time, efforts, money, food and humor. It's been an amazing opportunity for me to chair the walk these past two years. Thank you to our outstanding committee who pitched in to make this happen. I'm grateful to my sidekick and assistant Aubrey for dealing with my stress during walk season and for my husband and kids for rubbing my feet and putting up with my general craziness. I've learned so much and my heart is even more endeared to those families and their loved ones who have, are, or will continue to advocate for a world with out Alzheimer's!

Resident Spotlight
Eris Black
Eris Black was born on August 24 in the beautiful
little rural town of Elsinore, Utah. Raised on fresh
country air and surrounded by farm land, she
helped her father herd and milk the cows, take
care of the chickens, and weed the garden. She
loved the beautiful song birds. From an early age,
her parents instilled in her the importance of living
the gospel of Jesus Christ, and of being true to her
faith at all times. Eris met the love of her life,
Leland, at a dance sponsored by the church. From
the time she first saw him, her mind was made up that he was the one for her. Eris and Leland married and settled in Provo, Utah to raise a family. They were blessed with three boys while living in Provo - Stephen, Doug, and Bruce. After having a new home built in Orem in 1954, they were blessed with a daughter, Marilyn. Raising her children to love the gospel and truly love others was a central focus for Eris, and she has always been a wonderful example. She filled our home with love, kindness, and encouragement. Never one to shrink from responsibility, Eris happily served in many callings in the church - including ward and stake relief society president. Eris and Leland served a mission together for the LDS church in Texas. One of her passions over the years has been geneological research. Our family will forever be thankful for her dedication to gathering wonderful histories of our ancestors, complete with compelling photos. In summing up who Eris is, one of her friends described her best: a combination of velvet and steel. She is kind and loving, always seeing the best in others. She is also strong and steady in the face of life's trials and tribulations that come to all of us at times. Eris has been blessed with 13 grandchildren, and 19 great- grandchildren. We love and adore you, dear mother of ours. Happy 91st birthday on August 24th!

John Mumford
He was born April 10, 1921 the second son of John Flitton Mumford and Rhoda Stitt Mumford and attended Pingree Elementary, Lewis Junior High, Ogden High and Weber State College.
In February, 1946 he met Ann Taylor of Plain City, Utah and he was so infatuated with her that they were engaged in August and married November 15, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. She has been his lifelong sweetheart for 65 years.
After returning from his military service John attended Weber State College and the Pacific Coast Banking School in Seattle, Washington. He taught banking classes for the American Institute of Banking and basic accounting in the evening school at Weber State University.
John was associated with and worked in the banks of Weber and Davis counties for twenty years before going to work at Hill Air Force Base where he worked until he retired, as the chief of the pay and travel section on Dec 30th, 1983. He had been an active member of the American Institute of Banking and the National Association of Bank Auditors and Comptrollers. He was also a member of the Ogden Lions Club.
He is a high priest and life time active member of the LDS church. He has served in various positions but preferred and enjoyed teaching Sunday school and priesthood the best.
In his younger years he enjoyed hiking, snowmobiling, golfing, and square and round dancing. If it hadn't been for his legs and Peripheral Neuropathy he would still be trying. He and Ann spent a number of summers traveling with friends throughout the western and coastal states and western part of Canada in their trailers. John and Ann lived in St George from 1989 to 2008.
His greatest joy and pride is his association with his three daughters, ten grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren. He claims they are his best and most important asset he has ever had. However, he does say that Ann has been the most important loving part of his life since 1946. He is well known by his family for his immaculate care of his cars. He has even been known to vacuum out the engines.
You may know him by a name other than John. His mother called him “Ken”, his old friends called him “Johnnie”, his wife calls him “John”, some call him “Dad” or “Grandpa”, and some of his new friends call him “Johnnie”.
In the words of John, Ken, & Johnnie, “I love my country and am glad that I was able to participate in keeping it safe. I am so lucky that Ann waited for me to come home. We didn't realize it at the time what we were waiting for but it really worked out for me.”
